updating global address book-12

However, some information and content is not directly editable and must be updated by Kellogg or Northwestern administration.

Refer to the table and procedure below for information about how to update your GAL profile.

The GAL, also known as Microsoft Exchange Global Address Book, is a directory service within the email system.

The GAL contains information about all email users, distribution groups, and Exchange resources such as classrooms and study group rooms at Kellogg.

Go to Northwestern Outlook Web App (OWA) and log in using your Net ID and password.

Various fields in the GAL can be updated using FASIS.

You can select all of them by selecting the first one, scrolling to the end of the list, and click the last item.

This will update contact information, pictures, phone numbers, etc. Now you have the most up-to-date information from Active Directory in your local address book. Under Send/Receive Groups, you should see an option to "Download Address Book." Now you will be prompted for a few options, and you can choose to update from the Global Address List (this is how your AD should push out contacts). I download the full address book and it loads for a couple of seconds. I open some contact which I haven't updated yet, click on update - it is updated.

In Cached Exchange Mode, Outlook 2007 & 2010 downloads a local copy of the Global Address List (GAL), but only updates it every 24 hours.
