If you recently enrolled in the Hamilton Password Manager (spring 2015) or changed your Hamilton network password (the password you use when logging in to Hamilton-owned computers in labs or offices) for any other reason, and you use Sophos as your anti-virus software on your home computer, you will need to follow the appropriate instructions below to update Sophos with your new password. Verify that the padlock located in the lower left hand corner is not locked (see below).

This is necessary for you to continue to receive critical virus updates. Click on your Start button (lower left corner of your screen) and choose All Programs. Open the Sophos folder in the list of programs and then select the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control folder. If it is locked, please click on the padlock and type in your computer’s password.

SAV8 is being discontinued in April 2014 and does not officially support Mavericks.

It is therefore urgent to move all Macs to SAV9 by April 2014.

There is no requirement for the general VCU community to upgrade to the new version of Sophos using the manual process. The most common reason this might happen is if you have another anti-virus program installed that you did not remove.

For those who wish to wait, we plan to schedule an automatic upgrade through Sophos. First, look on your control panel to see if there's another anti-virus program, uninstall it, and try to install Sophos AV again.

Sophos have gone from being one of the best Mac enterprise anti-virus solutions to (perhaps) the worst. Multi-platform organisations are likely to have a Windows server (or more than one) and can therefore run Sophos Enterprise Console to create and manage a Mac installer for Sophos Anti-Virus. Previously Mac only organisations could use Sophos Update Manager to do much the same on a Mac server.

Unfortunately SUM only supports SAV8 and does not support SAV9.

Re-distribution of the installer or other licensed Sophos files electronically or via physical media (such as recordable CDs) is not allowed.

Authorized users will always be able to download the latest version of the SAV software onto the target system directly from Computing Services' highly available servers.

In cases where computer systems are being disposed of, this software should be uninstalled or erased prior to the disposal of the system.
