It first aired on December 20, 1965 and was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s.ABC dropped the show on July 6, 1973, but it continued in syndication for another year (1973–1974) as The New Dating Game.
In the United States, the song is closely associated with the long-running game show The Dating Game, for which it served as the "Bachelor’s Theme".
The song was also recorded by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 on their 1966 debut album, Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66.
The program was revived three additional times in syndication afterwards.
The first revival premiered in 1978 and ran until 1980, the second ran from 1986 until 1989, and the last ran from 1996 until 1999 with a season of reruns following.
